Special Schools
Trust status for special schools
Special schools are able to benefit from trust status whilst
maintaining their distinctive ethos and characteristics. The trust
can provide an expanding range of support for children, young
people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in many
ways, for example:
- Broader and higher quality professional development for
staff
- Wider range of opportunities for students to achieve and
experience success
- The trust can offer vehicles for the local authority to work in
partnership to achieve its goals under Every Child Matters
- Trust-appointed governors enhancing the governing body with
different skills and knowledge
- An increased range of support opportunities for families and
carers, as well as advice for parents about how to access help for
their children
- Empower the community of parents and children with SEN
- Trust partners can provide a corporate acumen, business
knowledge, ethical stance, and support and challenge
The joint commitment between schools and partners to provide
support for the vulnerable and disadvantaged can be greatly
strengthened through the organisational coherence that trust status
can bring. It moves the partnership to a new level.
