Wolds and East Education Trust (WEET)

The trust aims to provide collaborative solutions to a broader curriculum offer, in particular for the 14 – 19 age range, developing applied learning and enabling schools to meet the National Challenge.

This shared trust opened in September 2008. The schools are within twenty minutes travelling distance of each other around the Louth area in Lincolnshire.

Schools:  Birkbeck Community Arts College, Cordeaux School and John Spendluffe Technology College

Partners: The Local Learning and Skills Council, Wolds College, local FE providers and Lincolnshire LA.

Trust partners have been involved in the establishment of the Wolds College. Funding for this project was raised by the trust through the Learning and Skills Council and Lincolnshire Local Authority 14-19 project.

Examples of trust impact include:

  • The opening of Wolds College to provide vocational education in motor vehicle maintenance, construction, engineering and in hair and beauty.
  • A wider curriculum at 14-19 and curriculum enhancement sessions before and after the school day at each school.
  • Planning and preparation for a common timetable and preparation for the 14-19 Entitlement Curriculum. This will enable all three schools to provide a broader curriculum and to offer pupils increased post 16 choices.
  • Securing a transport agreement with Lincolnshire to facilitate easy movement between the schools.

Plans for the future include implementation of a common timetable and preparation for 14-19 Entitlement Curriculum through joint staff development, enabling all three schools to extend the curriculum further and to offer pupils increased post 16 choices; dealing collaboratively and proactively with the impact of falling pupil numbers; and exploring more effective ways of working as a partnership including the appointment of trust coordinator to deal with buildings and site development, business, finance and income generation, recruitment and marketing.

“Go for it!  If you passionately believe in partnership working it provides you with a vehicle for sustainable change” states Peter Kubicki, Headteacher at Cordeaux School.
