The role of parents

When a school decides to set up a trust, it must consult parents. If the local authority is concerned that the school’s governing body is ignoring parents’ views, it can refer the school to the schools adjudicator.

Parents must make up at least one third of a trust school’s governing body, as is the case in all local authority maintained schools.
